Weft Extension Care Guide
Weft extensions are designed to give you seamless, natural-looking hair with minimal daily effort when cared for properly.
This guide will walk you through exactly how to maintain your extensions at home, what to expect after installation, and how to prepare for your move-up appointments so your hair stays looking its best.
Daily Care
Consistency is key when it comes to keeping your extensions smooth, tangle-free, and long-lasting.
-
Brush your hair morning and night using a professional extension brush
-
Always support the weft when brushing near the root
-
Gently detangle from ends → mid-lengths → then roots
-
Keep hair secured in a loose braid or ponytail while sleeping
-
Never sleep with wet or damp hair
Washing & Drying
Proper washing makes a significant difference in both longevity and comfort.
-
Wash 2–3 times per week (or as needed for your scalp)
-
Focus shampoo on the scalp only avoid scrubbing the weft track
-
Condition mid-lengths to ends, avoiding the base of the weft
-
Rinse thoroughly to prevent buildup
-
Gently squeeze out excess water (do not rub), after washing
-
Always fully dry the base of the weft area
-
Avoid air-drying at the scalp, as this can lead to irritation or slipping
Heat Styling
Extensions can’t regenerate like your natural hair, so protecting them from excessive heat is key to maintaining their quality.
-
Always use a heat protectant
-
Avoid direct heat on the beads and stitching
-
Keep hot tools at a controlled temperature - remember you are styling your hair not baking cookies! Air on the side of caution when selecting a temperature setting (hottest isn't always best).
What's Normal?
It’s completely normal for your extensions to feel slightly different at first, especially if this is your first time wearing extensions.
-
They will feel more snug for the first few days
-
A feeling of “awareness” of the wefts (this fades quickly)
-
Light shedding of extension hair over time
-
These adjustments typically resolve within the first week as everything settles.
Move-Up Maintenance
Regular move-up appointments are essential for maintaining both the look of your extensions and the health of your natural hair.
Recommended timing: every 5–8 weeks
You and your stylist will discuss your personal maintenance routine to ensure healthy hair + scalp.
Waiting too long between appointments can lead to:
-
Tension at the root
-
Tangling or matting
-
Uneven weight distribution
How to Prepare for Your Move-Up Appointment
To ensure the best results, please come prepared with the following:
-
Hair should be clean and fully dry
-
No dry shampoo, oils, or heavy product at the scalp
-
Hair thoroughly brushed and detangled
