How to Keep Your Hair Looking Seamless and Feeling Comfortable
Hair extensions are a total game-changer for adding volume, length, and confidence in a way nothing else can. But to keep them looking and feeling their best, timely maintenance is everything. One of the most important parts of your extension care routine? Move-up appointments.
Whether you’re rocking hand-tied, sew-in wefts, K-Tips, or another method, going too long between maintenance can compromise the health of your natural hair and the longevity of your extensions.

So how do you know it’s time to get in my chair? Here are 3 signs it’s time for a move-up:
1. Your Extensions Are Hanging Lower Than Usual
If your wefts or bonds feel like they’ve “slid” down or are sitting much lower than where they were originally installed, it’s a sign the grow-out has gone too far. Not only does this create visible gaps, but it can put unnecessary strain on your natural hair, which can lead to breakage or discomfort.
Pro tip: Most weft methods need to be moved up every 4–6 weeks to maintain placement and protect your roots.
2. Styling Is Getting More Difficult
Are you noticing it’s harder to blend your natural hair with your extensions? Maybe you’re spending more time curling, brushing, or hiding visible attachment points? That’s a red flag. When the extensions grow too far from the scalp, the movement and blend become less natural and that seamless look you love may start to fade.
3. You’re Feeling Tension, Itching, or Discomfort
Extensions should never hurt or cause tension when properly maintained. But as your natural hair grows, the weight and placement of your extensions can start to feel off. If you’re noticing itching near the roots, soreness, or tightness your hair is likely overdue for a refresh.

Bottom Line with Extension Move-ups:
Move-ups aren’t just a beauty routine — they’re essential care for your hair. Skipping or stretching your appointments too far can lead to matting, tangling, or damage, which is why I always recommend pre-booking your maintenance to stay on schedule.
If you’re noticing any of the signs above, it’s time to get back in my chair.
